Our accountant advises that we could file a 990N for IRS purposes. From Guidestar perspective is it more beneficial to file a 990EZ?
Good Morning Gwen,
Thank you for contacting GuideStar.
Upon reviewing your organization's GuideStar profile, I see that your organization is showing that you are required to file a Form 990-N with the IRS. When asked why an organization does not have any 990s appearing on their profile, we let users know that the 990-N is unlike the submission of other 990 documents to the IRS. The nonprofit is supplying their data online and no form is be used. In addition, the Internal Revenue Service does not render the 990-Ns in any sort of “official” document PDF form that GuideStar would be able to post and analyze.
You are more than welcome to upload your organization's 990-N to the profile. I'm including a link to assist you and provide more information about 990s: Receiving and Uploading Forms 990 to your GuideStar Nonprofit Profile.
We have many organization's who do not file a 990 or 990EZ and only file a 990N. However, if your concerned about not having any financials listed, you are more than welcome to fill out the Silver section of your organization's profile. I'm including a link from our Learn How To section of the Community to assist you with updating the Silver section: How to Achieve the Silver Level of Participation - Update Financial Documents, Fiscal Year, Revenue, Expenses, and Assets & Liabilities. Please note that you are only required to fill out the fields that have a red asterisk next to them.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance.
