The Community Foundation hosting the GuideStar Local Nonprofit Directory will have a preset Geography filter limiting the organizations available by a zip code radius or a list of counties. This geographical filter is defined as a product provision and cannot be updated by the user.
A user can search for a local nonprofit organization by typing a Name, EIN, or Keyword into the search bar. There are also organization filter options to refine a search. Users can filter by the GuideStar Profile Seal Level (all are shown by default, Cause Area (NTEE Codes), and Affiliation Type. Some specific exclusion filters may be preset by the organization hosting the Local Directory; users may not be able to toggle the revoked, defunct, or merged filters on and off.
Financial filter options are also available to limit searches by Income, Expenses and Assets. Users can adjust the search by using the slider bar marked by the red arrow or enter the amounts. To enter the specific dollar limits, users must hover their mouse over $0 and max to make a text box appear. Enter the desired search criteria into the relevant text boxes to set a Min/Max value for the search.
Researching Individual Organizations
Once a user receives their Search results they can review that organization's GuideStar Nonprofit Profile page by clicking on the organization name. Users will have access to view all available Forms 990 for the organization.
Users can navigate to specific sections of the profile by using the colored tabs along the top banner (Navy Blue, Orange, Light Blue and Yellow) or the Navigation Bar on the left-hand side of the Profile Page.
