How to Achieve the Bronze Level of Participation - Update Organization Name, Address, Mission Statement, Logo, Staff, Leadership, & Board Members

Access Bronze Section

  1. Sign in to guidestar.org or register
  2. Click Update Nonprofit Profile link at the top of the home page
  3. Choose Edit Form under Manage 
  4. Choose Bronze on the left-side of the page
  5. Select a category from the dropdown list to update that section
  6. Fill out data fields with a red star next to them to complete the Bronze section

 

Make sure to Save your changes. Choose Publish changes when you want your updates to appear on GuideStar.

 

Updates will appear on GuideStar 20-30 minutes after publishing.

Bronze Fields

The Bronze Seal of Transparency focuses on basic information about your organization.

  • Names & Contacts - What is your organization's name? Is your organization known by other names? Who is the primary contact? Do you have a fundraising contact?
  • Addresses - What is your main mailing address? 
  • Founding Info - When was your organization founded (or dissolved)? Do you have a Letter of Determination or Dissolution?
  • Donation Info - Where should people send donations to your organization?
  • Leadership & Staff - Who leads your organization? Would you like to display the names and titles of any other staff members?
  • Board Members - Who chairs your board? Who is on your organization's Board?
  • Brand - Does your organization have a logo, tagline, website?
  • Mission - What is your organization's mission? 
  • Programs and Maps - What are your organization's current programs? (Include Service Area and Population Served for each program)
  • Categorization - What keywords best describe your organization's work? What NTEE codes describe your organization?

 

 

 

 

How to Update Organization Name

  1. Sign in to guidestar.org or register
  2. Click Update Nonprofit Profile link at the top of the home page
  3. Choose Edit Form under Manage 
  4. Choose Bronze on the left-side of the page
  5. Choose Names & Contacts

Update name in the Organization Name field. Make sure to Save your changes. Choose Publish changes when you want your updates to appear on GuideStar.

Mission Statements have a 800 character limit.

How to Upload Your Organization's Logo

Follow these steps to upload your organization's logo to your GuideStar Nonprofit Profile.

  1. Sign in to guidestar.org or register

  2. Click Update Nonprofit Profile link at the top of the home page

  3. Choose Edit Form under Manage

  4. Choose Bronze on the left-side of the page
  5. Choose Brand

 

Requirements

  • Size < 1MB
  • Resolution 256px by 256px or larger

 

Preferences

Our partners such as Google, Amazon, and PayPal prefer:

  • .svg vector file format (which can be resized)
  • .png and .jpeg file types are also accepted (but may not look as good)

Updates to your organization's leader and co-leader will appear on GuideStar 20-30 minutes after publishing. Staff members appearing on a Profile are pulled from the most recent Forms 990.

  5. Choose Categorization
  6. Choose at least one keyword, a Primary NTEE Code, and Primary Sub NTEE Code

 

Make sure to Save your changes. Choose Publish changes when you want recent board members to appear on GuideStar.

  4. Choose Outreach Toolkit
  5. Choose Get the Tool Kit

How to Upload Letter of Determination

  1. Sign in to guidestar.org or register
  2. Click Update Nonprofit Profile link at the top of the home page
  3. Choose Edit Form under Manage 
  4. Choose Bronze on the left-side of the page
  5. Choose Founding Info

If you are having trouble uploading your 990, it may be larger than the allowed size of 10 MB. To resolve this issue you will need to compress the file. Below is a link to assist you.

Ruling Year

There are 2 dates on a Letter of Determination, the stamped date, which is the date the IRS gives the determination (or the ruling), and the “Effective Date of Exemption”, this is the date that the org is exempt from taxes and donations can be made that are tax deductible. See the example below.
